RV antifreeze also does not contain the additional anti-corrosion chemicals needed to prevent corrosion in the 200+ degree F environment of the engine and car radiator. I agree that a one-time use in a pinch might be acceptable, but not on a regular basis. Then it turns into a case of Failure to Plan is Planning to Fail. Every Walmart that I have been in carries RV antifreeze so unless you are dry camping in the middle of nowhere, you should be able to find and purchase RV antifreeze to use.

I think you'd have to see some extended, really cold temps to freeze a black tank. I would never use toxic anti-freeze unless I had a way to recover it. Not a habit you want to get into.

+1  Good idea to recycle the antifreeze, even the rv pink stuff.  Even though we have easy access for recycling antifreeze, I still use just 16 oz. each year to winterize our 177.

With all due contempt to California, I thinkthat there is an unreasonable 'eek' factor at work here seen too often in theway that state reacts to minimal or even imaginary hazards.

Car antifreeze is definitely poisonous tomammals because of the way we metabolize it. I don't intend to drink thecontents of our black tank. I have already shown that in low concentrations, it'sactually beneficial for bacteria. At low concentrations, it also has nosignificant harm to plants. So what's the problem?

The key of course is 'at low concentrations'. Whenthe car antifreeze is used up I'll go back to routine use of the pink stuff, anyway.

You can make your choices, but it is still not the best one to use auto antifreeze because of the anti-corrosion chemicals. Why would you intentionally use something that is toxic? You may not be "drinking the contents of the black tank," but those contents are drained into a sewage system. If those chemicals are not broken down by the treatment plant, they then flow out into the general water supply.  Also, I did some reading and the auto antifreeze could contribute to the seals deteriorating which is another reason to not use auto antifreeze in place of the RV antifreeze which should be used.

Ethylene glycol is poisonous.  It kills wild life in relatively low concentrations.  California is the most populous state in the nation with almost 40 million people concentrated mostly in the coastal regions and the San Joaquin and Sacramento valleys.  With that population stricter limitations in regard to the disposal of toxic chemicals are absolutely necessary.

Someone draining his/her radiator on the ground in Bluegrass, North Dakota will not have nearly the same effect as 100,000 people doing it in Los Angeles, California.  Though California has many areas that are every bit as rural as Bluegrass, ND, the laws to control toxic releases into the environment have to be made an applied on a statewide basis or you will end up with a labyrinth of convoluted and unenforceable standards that no one will be happy with and that will not protect our environment.

Though many people have strong feeling about California and whether they do things the right way or not, the fact is that California, if it were a nation, would be among the top five countries in the world.   Whether California is a wonderful place to live or s'hole, as many of its detractors contend, is really a political question, perhaps better left to another forum.

Happy, you may not drink the contents of your black water tank, but when you drain it, the municipal treatment center that receives the effluent may not be set up to remove the ethylene glycol.  When they release the "treated sewage" into the local river, the fish and wild life do, indeed, drink your black water tank contents.

RV AF I believe is non-toxic, it is much safer to use than auto AF.

You might also think about removing the shower sink. It's pretty much useless. I did that and we've really been happy with the extra mobility.  It's still a bit tight for me and if I have a choice of a campground shower I'll always do that.  But for my 5'4" wife, she loves it and never uses anything else.  We also replaced the shower head and that's great. Get one with a pause though.

Hmmm??? we added a sink to our head and it's wonderful not washing your hands after using the toilet in the food preparation area.  I've showered in there, and I'm large, and have never had a problem.  I just sits me down in the toilet and enjoy the hot water.

We are contemplating a small storage area in the wall behind the toilet along the lines of what marwayne built.  But since I can't convince him to drop on down to Dayton for a spell and help me with it, it'll be a little more simple.

The bottom seal is a bit too loose. I can see light looking from inside out, somewhere in the middle of the slide out. It's just a tiny piece of rubber touching the slideout. Did anyone upgrade or replaces this one? How hard is it to do?

FR quoted me a wrong size curtain. When I asked them about it, they never got back to me. Whatever. I measured and bought one off amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JNHF2Z6/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_0ipnCbC77PSC5

Screwed one side in place using original mount that came with rpod, and left the other side as is (the one that has a magnetic mount on the original curtain). It worked perfectly! No water on the bathroom floor or anything.

I also realized that the original curtain had a heavy smell. Some kind of water/mildew resistant chemical, I assume. It bothered me a lot. So as a bonus - no more smell. The new curtain is super light and dries very quickly. Easy and cheap to replace. Fits fine on the original rail.

We did not replace our curtain but was bothered by the bottom always moving inwards and touching you.  We wanted to add hooks at the bottom to attach to the bar but never able to find anything that would fit.  Called FR and they did not know of anything to attach the bottom. So we ended up opening the bottom of the shower and gluing 4 super strong magnets inside the wall (It must be very strong magnet to go through the plastic wall of the shower bottom).  Then we glued 4 stainless steel washers to the bottom of the curtain where it met the magnets and now the shower curtain sticks to the walls when closed and comes off easily to open the curtain.  It was like getting a 25% bigger shower!!!

Just pulled my battery out for storage.  Was looking for advice on trickle charger and it looks like my battery might be a car battery?  Is that possible, and if so, is that bad for my Rpod 179?

In case images don't work, brand is Mainstream from Competitive Edge in Cleburne, TX.  Info on top says 24DP-5, 500 CCA, RV/Marine battery.

Thanks for any advice!

Nothing wrong with that battery. Looks like it's a deep cycle wet cell since it states "RV/Marine" right on the battery. You may not get the deep discharge you might otherwise expect, but it will work fine for a while. We have two batteries on ours, and that gives us just enough run time.

Thanks. Was just confused that it had info on cold cranking amps instead of the other info I’ve seen. Will just get a decent trickle charger to help when RV is in storage for a few months.

It's known as a "hybrid" battery. Most RV's have them. The 1% of owners who actually NEED a lot of off grid 12v, switch to a deep cycle solution. Most, likely somewhere near 98% (IME) of RV owners need the 12v battery ONLY to fire the brakes in case of a breakaway. They never camp without hookups, or for longer then the standard battery will allow them to be without charging.

Seriously!? Only 2% ever camp off-grid? I challenge that estimate.Sounds like a poll is in order 😁...

IMO, the more public land and camp grounds are available, the more people go off-grid to camp.  We are blessed in the west with huge tracts of public lands which are open to everyone and it's easy to not only camp in camp grounds, but to do "disbursed" camping in the middle of nowhere.  On the other hand, there are people who use their RV's like a moving hotel where the destination is not the place you camp.  In that case, RV parks are their preference.

2% is probably pretty close out east. East of the Big Muddy (I fear don't know how to spell 'Mississippi' correctly) opportunities for hook ups are everywhere and the opportunity for utility-less camping, while still there, is much less - mostly private lands, national forests and places like some state forests or wildlife management areas. Too many trees to just plunk down anywhere in a national forest and similar undeveloped areas out here. Generally too many trees/clouds to count on solar. Except in winter, with care I can get 3-4 days even with our group 24 battery and then its time to move to another campground anyway, one with electricity.
